Every Watch Has a StoryTM is in no way affiliated with Chanel and does not claim to be.

Story: Coco Chanel was born on August 19, 1883, and fashion would never be the same again. She went on to become the founder of one of the most famous fashion brands the world has ever known. Her clothing, watches, perfumes, and jewelry have been worn by celebrities of every type for more than one hundred years. TIME magazine named her one of the 100 most influential people of the 20th century.

Her rebellious spirit made her both a genius and often made her the center of controversy. Coco Chanel lived a very active life as an artist, socialite, and businesswoman. It is impossible to ignore her pioneering impact as both a fashion designer and a businesswomen in a time where business was dominated by men.

In modern times, the most famous Chanel customer was undoubtedly Jacqueline Onassis Kennedy. As First Lady of the United States, a week did not pass when she didn’t wear a watch, jewelry, or clothing from Chanel. It could be said that Mrs. Onassis Kennedy single handedly catapulted the Chanel brand into a new stratosphere.

Today Chanel continues to produce the very finest clothes, perfumes, jewelry, and of course, watches. Their boutiques in all the most famous cities in the world continue to serve champagne to their guests which makes visiting these stores much more than just shopping. We particularly recommend a visit to Chanel’s two stores on Ave XYZXYZ if you ever find yourself in Paris. This is where the legend of Coco Chanel and her enduring brand all began.

Here are a handful of her more famous quotes, which provide a unique perspective into Coco Chanel the person and the legend:

A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous.

Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.

In order to be irreplaceable one must always be different.

Fashion fades, only style remains the same.

Simplicity is the keynote of all true elegance.

Dress shabbily and they remember the dress; dress impeccably and they remember the woman.

The most courageous act is still to think for yourself. Aloud.

Some people think luxury is the opposite of poverty. It is not. It is the opposite of vulgarity.

Fashion is architecture: it is a matter of proportions.
